Depression is Real

This is your Professional Sista, Marsha C. McLean. I have been assigned to restore the mental health of communities, families and relationships, especially as it affects Black Women. This week our focus will be on depression which we all should speak boldly about. It is the silent killer of many disrupting the peace that each individual deserves to have. First and foremost, depression is real and has become an epidemic for many Black Women. Like a cold or virus, if left untreated, it leads to “wear and tear” of our bodies, mind and spirit. It is common to chalk these feelings off as fatigue or symptoms of daily frustrations but depression is much more serious than all that.

I would like to give you a tip for combating depression as you enter your glorious week. Seek treatment for symptoms lasting over thirty days; this includes but is not limited to sadness, body fatigue, sudden anger, changes in sleep patterns, and feelings of hopelessness or worthlessness. This could very well be depression. You can do this by finding support with a trained professional!

This is a mental health moment and I am on the front lines of this movement with you. ~ Provided by your Professional Sista Marsha C. McLean, LPC
